Hearing loss can be a serious problem

Current Hearing Aid Technology is able to resolve this problem by amplifying only the parts of the signal which are missing. Sounds  which can be adequately  heard, or are perhaps even loud without hearing aids, are not amplified by the hearing aids. Because hearing aid microchips automatically adjust several million times every second, they can be tuned to make soft high pitches audible without amplifying the louder, but less important, lower pitched sounds of speech. Every moment matters. is it bad to regularly sleep wearing earplugs?

“Never put anything smaller than your elbow into your ear” is something we’ve been wisely cautioned against at some stage or another. But more of us are ignoring this advice. We use in-the-ear-headphones to listen to music, car keys and hair pins to scratch that particularly unpleasant itch, and hearing aids to enable better communication. Many of us also use disposable foam earplugs to protect from damaging noises in the workplace, or to block the noise of snoring partners, loud traffic outside bedroom windows, dogs barking and any other bothersome sounds that prevent a good night’s sleep. If you regularly use earplugs to sleep, is it damaging? On the internet, people ask whether doing so  can cause tinnitus ,  infections or ear pain . Can regular earplug use cause wax or pressure build up in the head? Can it cause headaches? The facts about wax To answer these questions, I should first explain a few things about ear wax. Wax is good for the ear but too much...

Hearing Loss Simulator: Understanding mild and moderate hearing loss

People with normal hearing – especially parents, spouses and friends of those with hearing loss – are often eager to better understand what hearing loss sounds like. While a blindfold worn around the house for an afternoon might help someone learn what it’s like to live without vision, hearing loss comes in varying degrees and forms. Simply blocking out all sound won’t provide the right information. To really understand the complex nature of hearing loss, you have to experience the loss of both volume as well as specific sounds. Using computer simulation algorithms, we’ve put together a group of audio files that simulate what someone with sensorineural hearing loss is able to hear in specific contexts. The sound files are grouped by type, from conversations in different contexts – background noise; restaurant; traffic – to various kinds of music. For each sound clip, you can listen to what it sounds like with “normal” hearing, as well as mild and moderate hearing loss. Here’s the ...

Definitely!!!!!! You Can Wear

Behind the ear (BTE) hearing aids and Receiver in canal (RIC) hearing aids, it is unlikely that you can wear headphones with your hearing aids unless you carefully position very   large over-the-ear headphones like these  over your hearing aid.  The headphones have to completely cover the ear, including the top of the ear where the hearing aid sits. The positioning of the headphones may be a little different, with the center of the headphone opening up over the top of the hearing aid. This will allow for the hearing aid wearer to pick up the music through the microphone of the hearing aid. 6 Tips to Protect your Hearing

If this were five or 10 years ago, the list of tips to protect your hearing might be quite a bit smaller. But thanks to brain research and the experiences and testimonies of countless folks and hearing specialists, that list has expanded. And we’re all the better for it. Here are 6 tips to protect your hearing: 1. Take a sound check Wherever you are, be conscious of how loud your surroundings are at all times. It often strikes me how much my awareness of sound has only become more acute with a hearing loss. Unexpected sounds can jump out at you from any place at any time. Too many of us lost our hearing – or got tinnitus – because of a sudden “bing, bang, boom” or “kaboom!” that we did not anticipate or were not able to shut down soon enough – like the greatest (and loudest) rock concert we ever attended. Consider taking a sound check before you enter or leave a building or participate in loud activities, such as cutting the lawn, weed whacking, leaf blowing, snowmobiling ...
